.hack//Link Announced For PSP

Five days ago, CyberConnect2 posted a mysterious countdown on their website, which isn't set to end until Friday... but its eventual reveal has almost certainly been spoiled by the early release of this week's issue of Famitsu: Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 are preparing .hack//Link for PSP, a series all-star action RPG in the vein of Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. Its release date is TBA.

Nominally based on the Japan-only manga .hack//Link: Knights of Twilight, the series' first portable outing will tell an all-new story set ten years after the first .hack, which Famitsu speculates might be the finale for the series. Through means as-yet-unexplained, all 100 characters from every iteration of media the series has seen -- games, anime, manga and novels -- will partner with new hero Tokio Kuryuu via a new two-person party system. Although Link will be making the transition to action battles on PSP, CC2 head Hiroshi Matsuyama assures the readers of Famitsu that it will have "a game system even women and children will feel comfortable playing."

Considering the volume of characters appearing in Link that will be totally unfamiliar to Western players (America and Europe have only received a fraction of .hack's expanded universe), a Stateside release seems questionable. If you'd like to play .hack//Link in English, consider making your voice heard to Bandai Namco USA.
